Musician Sonam Kalra wins three e-medals for India at Global Music Awards for original compositions

Sonam Kalra, the creator of The Sufi Gospel project, has gained recognition for her unique musical collaborations and creations. She combines music with poetry and brings together artists from different genres, establishing her influence in the alternative music scene.

Recently, Sonam Kalra has achieved remarkable success, earning three medals from the Global Music Awards for her own compositions. Her song “Bol,” which is based on the poetry of Faiz Ahmad Faiz, won a Gold medal in the Best Female Vocalist category. Additionally, the song itself won a Gold medal in the Best Song category.

Furthermore, she received a Silver medal for her song “Alfat” in the Outstanding Achievement in World Fusion Music category. This song is inspired by the poetry of the 17th-century Sufi poet-saint Baba Bulleh Shah.

Expressing her gratitude for the recognition, Sonam said, “I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from the jury of The Global Music Awards. It is particularly special to be acknowledged for my work not only in India but also internationally. This recognition proves that music transcends borders.”

Sonam is a singer-songwriter and composer with proficiency in both Indian and Western music styles. She has received training in Hindustani Classical music from Shubha Mudgal and Pandit Sarathi Chatterjee, while also studying Gospel and Jazz with Ashley Clement in Singapore. Additionally, she has received classical opera training from the celebrated Korean tenor Hur Chul Young.

Last year, Sonam received another prestigious invitation to become a voting member of the US Grammy Recording Academy. Reflecting on this honor, she exclaimed, “Being a part of the Grammy Recording Academy is a dream come true. The invitation is a testament to the peer-reviewed quality of one’s music and being selected among outstanding musicians worldwide is an immense honor and validation of artistic talent.”
