A musical performance reviving Meera Bai’s unspoken side in the capital city

Art lovers were in for a treat as Vidushi Sumitra Guha and her senior disciple Dr Samia Mahbub Ahmad, accompanied by Kathak dancer Shinjini Kulkarki, brought alive the never-spoken side of Meera Bai through a dance performance in Delhi. The show titled, Veer Meera – A musical on empowering women aimed to spread the message of women awakening and liberation by showcasing the ideology of brave Meera Bai and her warrior spirit.

“A saint-poet who dedicated herself to the worship of Lord Krishna is the general description which we have all heard about Meera Bai for centuries now. But what we often miss is she was much more than her unwavering devotion to Lord Krishna. She was a true feminist who stood against the patriarchal world in the 16th century AD. An inspiration for women across ages even today,” said Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Vidushi Sumitra Guha.

The evening, organized by Sumadhur Hamsadhwani Trust and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, was conceptualized and composed by Hindustani classical vocalist Vidushi Sumitra Guha and her senior disciple Dr Samia Mahbub Ahmad. The Chief Guest for the evening was NK Singh, IAS, Chairman, 15th Finance Commission, and President of the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG). While inaugurating the show, he said, “It is indeed my pleasure to be part of this grand event. As a lover and follower of classical music, I am honored to be invited by the organizers, and I look forward to this grandeur event.”
